Kopitiam was founded by two passionate individuals dedicated to bringing true Singaporean cuisine to London. Through our experiences in various Malaysian and Singaporean restaurants across the city, we observed that many so-called Singaporean & Malaysian eateries fall short of authenticity. The food is not prepared by Singaporeans or Malaysians, leading to a lack of genuine flavour and traditional techniques. For instance, Rendang is sometimes made with pre-made sauces and boiled beef, and Char Kway Teow lacks the distinctive wok-hei of authentic Singaporean preparation.
As traditional Singaporean dishes fade away, with fewer new chefs preserving these culinary treasures, we strive to keep these flavours alive.
